Download Sapphire Plug-ins 1.31 for older Avid AVX Products on Mac

Last updated: October 6, 2003

To Download and install:

  1. Make sure you have one or more of the following products on Mac:
    Media Composer  v 7.0 to 11.7
    Symphony v 4.7 only
    Xpress v 2.0 to 5.7
    Xpress DV v 3.5 to 3.9
    Newscutter v 2.0 to 6.0
For newer Avid versions please use the current version instead.

  2. Download the appropriate installer (4.5 Mb) for the Mac OS you are running:
Install v1.31 for Mac OS X
Install v1.21 for Mac OS 9 or earlier
This will download the installer as a Stuffit archive into your download folder as configured on your Mac.

  3. If your browser did not automatically unstuff this file, go to your download folder and double-click on the .sit file to unstuff it. When it asks for a folder, pick the desktop for simplicity, and it should put the unstuffed installer on your desktop.

  4. Double-click on that installer file and follow the installer's directions.

Restart your Avid and you should find your new plug-ins in the Effect Palette in the Sapphire Plug-ins category. You can simply use these effects just as you would any other effect.

To view on-line documentation after you install the software, click on the "Effect UI" icon in the upper left of the parameters page while you are using any plug-in and then select "Help". This should automatically bring up the documentation in your HTML browser.

To process a Title or Key without affecting the background please also see the MakeRGBA information and tutorial on our support page.

NOTE: Some Sapphire Plug-ins such as Lens and Emboss require more than one input clip, and may output all black images if only one clip is available. Make sure you provide the plug-in with the correct number of clips. You can check the "Effect UI" dialog to see which inputs a plug-in expects: click on the small icon in the upper left of the parameter page.
